Avon, New York

Avon, New York was the junction of the Erie Railroad's Avon Branch (Avon-Attica), Corning Branch (Avon to Corning), and Mount Morris Branch (Rochester to Mount Morris).  The 1924 map below shows the location of the station to the west of Rochester Street and north of West Main.  The Erie also had a small yard in the same area.

From 1907 to 1934 the Mount Morris Branch from Rochester to Mount Morris through Avon was electrified using an 11,000 volt alternating current power supply.

The photos below from the Library of Congress show the passenger station and freight house as the appeared in 1972.  The passenger station still stands, as shown in the color photo from 2001 at the bottom of the page.
